Hi everyone! Happy November! Hope you all had a lovely October and Halloween! I enjoyed passing out candy to kids, and they all enjoyed my leopard outfit. 🙂 Sadje published a post today , “What! Me scared!!!” which perfectly captures my current feelings.
I just want to preface this post by acknowledging how nervous and excited I feel. I hope sharing my feelings here can help me shake off my nerves. One of the reasons I haven’t been here for a while was not only was I recovering from COVID, but I was also working on my first book! That’s just the tip of the iceberg. I’m juggling quite a bit, but I’ll share that all in due time.
A few weeks ago, I was awarded by my university for doing exciting things in the world. Honestly, I was in shock. There were so many amazing candidates out there. It’s a distinguished honor to be recognized and chosen for such a high-profile event. There was a lovely banquet. I tried my absolute best to do this event justice despite me still recovering by preparing and deliveringa moving speech in front of my family, friends, teachers, and colleagues. I even shared about this blog and all the wonderful and creative people I met across the globe on WordPress. You all have impacted my life so much in the short span of a couple of years.
A few months prior, I had an interview with a director of a publishing company. Every year, they select a handful of people to share their stories. Then each author would have their own book featuring his/her own story alongside other stories by other best selling authors in subsequent chapters. It’s very similar to the format in Chicken Soup for the Soul series.
I went into the interview thinking that I was just going to have fun learning more about the process. I dressed casually in a t-shirt and jeans thinking that there were probably more experienced and successful professionals than me that need to share their insights with the world. I wasn’t even sure if I was the right fit seeing that I write primarily fiction. Non-fiction philosophical methodology and psychology is a new territory for me.
I was surprised by how much at ease I was during the interview. It was a comforting feeling realizing that I could be on the same wavelength as the publishing director. I was a sponge taking in his fountain of wisdom. My jaw dropped when he gave me an offer at the end of our meeting. I didn’t want to appear to over-eager, but I felt like my heart was doing somersaults inside.
I thought about writing a book ever since I was a kid. I didn’t have any idea what my first book was going to be like. I really thought fiction or children’s stories was the way to go for me. I’ve been so inspired by many blogger authors here. My chapter has gone through several drafts. “As fulfilling as this journey has been for me, what if people don’t like it?” I hope it inspires and helps others on their own life journey. There is no way I can please everyone.
I feel like I’m standing on the shoulders of giants with my fellow coauthors in this book. This publishing team works so hard on my behalf and shared it with a hundred news distribution sites across the nation. I’m so thankful for their support and the coauthor community. Now that it’s out there, I’m wondering what I’m going to do next for the actual book launch. I might actually host more than one across different platforms.
This is a different genre than what I feel most of my WordPress audience writes and reads about, but I still wanted to share the news! I feel elated. Thanks for stopping by today. 🙂 Enjoy the rest of your week!
