#OctPoWriMo13 – Rooted in Love

“A people without the knowledge of their past history, origin and culture is like a tree without roots.”

Marcus Garvey

A solitary beauty grows
in lovely fields where the wind blows
Everred tree provides some shade
for the wild children who played

Enveloped by the scarlet rows…

Brown branches sometimes house the crows
Love given during fated throes
from the precious red leaves that swayed

Sacred deep roots…

Donning the color of a rose
Nature’s kind nurse naturally knows
Fostering healing in swift aid
when our weak well being is frayed
and bring us back up from our lows

Sacred deep roots…

#OctPoWriMo12 – Locked in Time

“Dance is the hidden language of the soul. “

Martha Graham

Locked in time, ballet dancer’s grace is locked
May mystify viewers early in May
Work of beauty requires ample work
Power released through body of power

Depth of breaths connects to musical depth
Balanced and poised, mystery is balanced
Daring to dream is in itself daring
Black sophistication hidden in black

Power of freedom lays choice of power
Force of faith will liberate a dark force
Moments now transition changing moments
Strong emotions evoked will make her strong

Will one witness her movements and steel will?
Being aware of all feeds her being…

#OctPoWriMo11- Walk in Silence

“Take a quiet walk with Mother Nature. It will nurture your mind, body, and soul.”

Anthony Douglas Williams, “Inside the Divine Pattern”

Walking along a dark countryside path
Path is dimly lit by the fireflies fluttering in the fields
Fields of moon flowers unfurling under the full moon
Moon casts a glowing light to lead the way

Shadows lurk in the edges of the streets
Streets are free from peacocks and dogs
Dogs sleeping peacefully at their owners’ patios
Patios are vacant from typical lemonade sipping gatherings

Dare I break the hauntingly beautiful silence?
Silence sliced by a soft lullaby?
Lullaby comforting my beating heart
Heart relishing at the sight of diamonds in the sky

#OctPoWriMo9 – Fiery Forest

“I see fire
Burning the trees
And I see fire
Hollowing souls
I see fire…”

Ed Sheeran

Crackling flames setting homes ablaze
Amazon wilderness’ atmospheric haze
Collapsing lungs of Mother Gaia
Praying for healing to Her own messiah
Struggling to breathe in the only bloom,
Constricted by a carbon monoxide plume
Destructive deforestation threatening demise
Suffocating life sparking international cries
Billows of smoke blending in with the clouds
Contaminating the precious air it enshrouds

#OctPoWriMo8 – Smell of Lime Leaves

Enjoying an evening stroll with mom as the crimson sun sets
Superstitious, I intentionally step over the cracks in the sidewalks
Didn’t want to tempt fate and break my mother’s back
Lively chatter and smiles spread throughout the neighborhood

Passing a yard, we stumble upon a lime tree hanging over a fence.
Delighted, mom jumps up and plucks a leaf as the branch springs back
She tears the leaf in half, rubs it between her fingers, and hands it to me
“Smell it sweetie, and you will be amazed.”

Curiously, I stared at the seemingly normal green leaves
Stunned as I bring the leaves closer to my nose to smell
Breathing in an incredibly fragrant natural perfume
Relaxing my mind. Creating lasting pleasant and revitalizing feelings

Thirsty and sweaty upon arrival to our home
We squeeze some limes and make icy limeade beverages
Cool and refreshing to the parched tongue
Citrus inspiration to the rescue of grateful souls

#OctPoWriMo5 – So Many Doors

“Zeal is a volcano, the peak of which the grass of indecisiveness does not grow.”

Khalil Ghibran

So many possibilities to choose from
Caught in the web of analysis paralysis
Which door will be right for me?
Each one presents an insightful experience
Curious to know what’s on the other side
Seeking a cure to my indecisiveness

Tick-Tock… Tick-tock…Tick-tock

Can I knock on each one and see if there’s any response?
Can I peek inside and if I don’t like it, can I just pop back out?
What if I took some time to hang out behind one door?
Contemplating the consequences of choosing one door over another
What’s worse is if I didn’t choose any door at all
As I’m pacing in chaotic, deep thought,
I hear a set of keys jingling in my pocket
Aha! Which doors can these open?

Tick-Tock… Tick-tock…Tick-tock

Time to walk confidently in the chosen path
Decision is transformed into a courageous undertaking
One that shapes my destiny and gives me inner peace
Freedom to learn from the outcomes outweighs the risk of regret
Future is built from committed present actions
Tenacity and attitude fuels purpose-filled grace
