Home, Sweet Home

There’s nothing as frightening and threatening as the loss of your home. It uproots feelings of security, disturbs your daily routine, affects your health…

“The ache for home lives in all of us. The safe place where we can go as we are and not be questioned.”
― Maya Angelou, All God’s Children Need Traveling Shoes

Sweet
Laughter
Dreams grow
Fellowship occurs
More than just four walls
Where you feel safe and sound
A space where attached feelings linger
Where you relax and unwind from your day
Shelters you from both figurative and literal storms

Throughout my life, I have seen friends and family experience the anxiety of losing their homes from hurricanes, lightning bolts, fires, crushing debts, job loss, arson, gas leaks… you name it. It’s overwhelmingly tragic. It’s fascinating when insurance policies calls some of these events, “acts of God“, natural hazards outside of your control.

Despite such a loss, it’s remarkable when I see the community help one another get back on their feet. Sometimes, strangers show random acts of kindness through gifts and sharing resources.

“Cherish the people who make up your home, and you’ll notice the hearth fires burn brighter than ever before.”
― Thomas Kinkade

Recurring nightmares of our home being on fire used to haunt my dreams. As a child, I used to unplug all appliances and tried to cure my insomnia as I nestled between my parents as they were sleeping. I prayed for these nightmares to go away. Throughout my life, those unforgettable memories spurred me to action to help others in another sphere.

Due to this understandable fear, I regularly help others on the brink of losing their homes or who have already lost their homes. Those stories are for another day. Today, I’ll focus on sharing the story of one lifestyle blogger in dire need to save his mother’s house.

Meet Mr.A

Arnie Correa (otherwise known as Mr.A) is a lifestyle blogger on A Barbarian in Gentlemen’s Clothing. He’s a father of a beautiful, young girl. I’ve followed him for a year now and his readership grew quickly because of his consistent hard work and thought-provoking articles.

His father and mother worked very hard for 20 years to save money to build their dream home in the Philippines. His mother contracted pulmonary edema, and as a result, she could not make her monthly bank payments on time. His family will lose their house in three months unless they can raise enough money to pay the bank.

To learn more about his mom’s story, you can visit here: Help Me Save My Mother’s House

His readership has reached a few milestones and generously pitched in, but he still has a long way to go to reach his goal to help his mother. Job market has been tough for him. So, he has multiple fundraising avenues:

  1. Gogetfunding.comhttps://gogetfunding.com/help-me-save-my-mothers-house/
  2. Paypal https://paypal.me/arniecorrea?locale.x=en_US
  3. Patreonhttps://www.patreon.com/user?u=32646507
  4. Fiverproofreading services

I’m passing along another blogger’s plea for help. If the story touches you, please share the post on social media channels or donate. Even if the story doesn’t touch you, consider using his proofreading services at $5 a pop. He can help you take your writing to the next level and give you some helpful feedback. Language buffs out there: if you want to learn a new language, he’s teaching Tagalog. One-on-one sessions with a native speaker is a perk.

Have a great day everyone! Don’t take your home for granted. Be blessed! 🌻❤🤲

Phillip Phillips – Home

Hold on, to me as we go
As we roll down this unfamiliar road
And although this wave is stringing us along
Just know you’re not alone
‘Cause I’m going to make this place your home
Settle down, it’ll all be clear
Don’t pay no mind to the demons
They fill you with fear
The trouble it might drag you down
If you get lost, you can always be found…

“What is home? My favorite definition is “a safe place,” a place where one is free from attack, a place where one experiences secure relationships and affirmation. It’s a place where people share and understand each other. Its relationships are nurturing. The people in it do not need to be perfect; instead, they need to be honest, loving, supportive, recognizing a common humanity that makes all of us vulnerable.”

Sunshine Blogger Award #6 from Wondering Belle

Good morning! These past few days, I’ve been enjoying a moment of respite as I indulged in my hobby of sewing. I’ve been walking been on nature walks with friends, and I can’t help but feel inspired by mother nature. I like to thank Wondering Belle who has graciously nominated me for a Sunshine Blogger Award. I really enjoy these as I get to know my questioner better by the questions he/she asks and introduce a new person to my readers! She enjoys having fun exploring the wonders of the world through her lovely writing! Here are the rules:

The Rules:

  • Thank the blogger who nominated you.
  • Answer the 11 questions the blogger asked you.
  • Nominate new blogs to receive the award and write them 11 new questions.
  • List the rules and display the Sunshine Blogger Award in your post/or on your blog.
  • Notify the nominees about it by commenting on one of their blog posts.

Belle’s Questions:

What makes you the happiest about your blog?
I love taking photographs of my walks in nature, writing stories and poems, and documenting my adventures and explorations alongside quotations and prompts by others. I have so much fun doing these questions too!

What is your all time top goal?
It’s rather funny – this was the same question that was on my recent scholarship essay which I titled “Metamorphosis” inspired by a quote from Metamorphoses by Ovid, a Roman poet:

“As wave is driven by wave
And each, pursued, pursues the wave ahead,
So time flies on and follows, flies, and follows,
Always, forever and new. What was before
Is left behind; what never was is now;
And every passing moment is renewed.”

I later found this photo shared by Helene Vaillant and felt like I could relate to the profound changes a caterpillar goes through to become a butterfly.

I concluded my essay with some goals I wanted to achieve with my degree:

“By embarking on a Master of Science in technology and innovation management at NCU, this endeavor will help me reach my goals of helping my community develop a stronger cybersecurity defense line by creating a unique and new product or service that maximizes the best use of resources, time, and money. The specialization in project management will enable me keep up with the trends, implement breakthrough research and development which can serve as a catalyst for social change. “

I know my goals will evolve as I continue to live my life. On this blog, it seems that I talk the least about it. My blog serves a different purpose outside of my career path. I think my top goal here is to inspire bloggers to enjoy the writing process.

What is one thing on your bucket list?
I want to take a few weeks to go check out the vast collections at the Smithsonian Museum in Washington DC someday!

Where would you suggest someone go visit?
A place that my family and I have visited that I would suggest someone go visit is the Grand Canyon. Encountering its sheer magnitude from the North Rim for the first time made my jaw drop! It’s absolutely breathtaking!

What do you think would make a difference to this world?

I think Gandhi was onto something when he said this. I think of our inner lives affect our actions in the world around us and nurturing the garden within us can bear fruit.

What is a hobby you wish you had more time to enjoy?
500 piece Thomas Kinkade Disney Dream collection puzzles. It’s a super magical collection and I can only manage 15 minutes a week or less. It’s a relaxing hobby for me and reading about its benefits such as “accelerated ingenuity, thought process support, dopamine production, meditation” on dumblittleman is intriguing. Yes…I should play more! 🙂

What is your favorite song right now?

Earlier this month, I came across decision that made me somewhat upset, and I imagined what would it be like to be separated from those I cared about for even a short time. Although I decided to stay close to loved ones, Freya’s beautiful voice captured a piece of what I was feeling.

Standing on the platform
Watching you go
It’s like no other pain
I’ve ever known
To love someone so much
To have no control
You said I want to see the world
And I said go
I think I’m lost without you
I just feel crushed without you
I’ve been strong for so long
That I never thought how much I needed you
I think I’m lost without you

Emeli Sande’s lyrics is also currently resonating with my spirit.

You’ve got the words to change a nation
But you’re biting your tongue
You’ve spent a life time stuck in silence
Afraid you’ll say something wrong
If no one ever hears it
How we gonna learn your song?
So come, come on
Come on, come on
You’ve got a heart as loud as lions
So why let your voice be tamed?
Baby we’re a little different
There’s no need to be ashamed
You’ve got the light to fight the shadows
So stop hiding it away
Come on, Come on

Have you ever written a book? What is the name of that book if so?
No, not yet, but what I hear from many authors is that writing a book an exhilarating, nerve wracking, time consuming, and rewarding experience! Ideally, I think I would want to stay in a small cabin by myself in the mountains somewhere with few distractions. I’m not sure what the solitude would do to me though. Perhaps, it would be a profound experience!

“I like the mountains because they make me feel small,’ Jeff says. ‘They help me sort out what’s important in life.”

30-Day Song Challenge: Day 28

Hello and good morning! Hope you enjoyed your holiday so far! Today’s challenge is an artist whose voice you love. I love Jackie Evancho’s angelic soprano voice! I can listen to her all day. Perhaps, it’s because I wish I had a soprano voice to be with the rest of the girls in my choir group, but I’m a mezzo-soprano. 😉 Anyway, enjoy! ❤

30-Day Song Challenge: Day 26

There are many songs that make me want to fall in love. A lot of country songs have beautiful love lyrics. Living in the lone star state all my life, I’ve had my fair share of western dances to country songs. Before I sound too sappy and cheesy, I’ll just share four country songs and two idealistic movie scenes from my love list today! 😀

Lonestar – Amazed
Easton Corbin – Lovin’ You is Fun
Luke Bryan – I Don’t Want This Night to End
Faith Hill – Breathe

“A Walk to Remember” is a romance novel written by Nicholas Sparks. What was compelling was that Nicholas based Jamie Sullivan’s character on his sister. While they won’t admit it, some of the guys I knew cried while watching this movie. It made them want to be a better man. This scene between Mandy Moore and Shane West from a Walk to Remember makes me want to fall in love again and again. They have wonderful chemistry. Mandy gives me goosebumps as she sings the song “Only Hope”!

Moulin Rouge is a feast for your eyes! Another song that makes me want to fall in love is “Your Song”. McGregor, you are so so romantic here!

30-Day Song Challenge: Day 23

Today’s challenge is a song I think everyone should hear at least once. What a challenge since everyone has such different tastes! So keep that in mind as I share my humble collection. Enjoy! 🙂

A beautiful moment in animation! The soothing voice of a sweet child in Saoirse Song…
