SoCs Saturday: Point

Found a new prompt titled Stream of Consciousness yesterday from LindaGHill’s blog. Keyword is point. “Open a book on your lap, close your eyes, and put your finger on the page. Whatever you land on, whether it be a word, a phrase, or a sentence, write about it. Enjoy!”

I opened to a page in “Hinds’ Feet on High Places” by Hannah Hurnard, an allegory dramatizing the journey each of us must take before we can live in “high places”.

For one black, awful moment Much-Afraid really considered the possibility of following the Shepard no longer, of turning back. She need not go on. There was absolutely no compulsion about it.

How many times does this feel like you? I’ve gone through many instances in my life where after making a decision, I wonder if it was better to go back to where I was. The journey is filled with unknown things. I never know how it’s going to change me.

How many times do we follow in the shadows of others? When do we get out of that shadow and blaze our own trail? How will our stories affect others after you take the leap?

Alternatively, how does the gift of fear keep us safe? How does knowledge of things help us avoid something that could be potentially harmful to our well being?

  1. What I’ve learned on my journey is that if I make time to get quiet and listen to my inner voice it’ll lead down the right path. It’s voice is few different from the automatic fear response when I’m stepping outside my comfort zone. Listening to my gut..my inner voice as I call has never steered me wrong. It’s when I don’t listen I find myself in a bit of a lurch.๐Ÿ˜‰

It’s something I would like to do more. Limit distractions as much as I can to be able to be more in tune with how I truly feel about situations. I think my body can signal to me when I’m stressed even if my mind doesn’t want to admit it for instance. ๐Ÿ™‚

      1. I understand it’s definitely something we constantly have to practice. Sometimes our brains are a little stubby and want to steal the show.๐Ÿ˜‰

Yes I thought so too! I saw another blogger write a fun post from the section and wanted to try it for myself. Surprisingly, it was relaxing just writing whatever came to my head; no editing allowed.

      1. In high school I was in the creative writing club and one exercise we did that I always liked was writing the first 10 words that came to mind and then limit yourself to 10 minutes to write each word having to be the first word of each line. It was an interesting challenge.

How cool! That actually sounds like a fun activity. I’m a little curious as to examples of what you might have came up with! You were so fortunate to have a creative writing club! ๐Ÿ™‚

We take the route we are meant to. The indecision and fear falls away once we makeup our mind.
