Dream: Studying the architecture in my surroundings, I realized I was studying abroad on a college campus somewhere in London. I was searching for some of my friends in a packed lounge, but I could not find them among the sea of students who were sprawled all of the floor taking naps or competitively playing video games in the corner of the room. I decided to walk back to my bedroom and take a nap.
Moonlight shines through my bedroom window. My phone suddenly starts ringing very loudly. The ringtone of Metallica’s “Enter Sandman” sends a jolt of dynamic sound waves to my ears:
“Sleep with one eye open
Gripping your pillow tight
Exit: light
Enter: night
Take my hand
We’re off to never never land.”
Rolling Stones may have described this song as one of the first metal lullabies, but I was unable to snooze through Metallica’s dramatic song. God, I’m just marveling at the fact that You inspired Metallica to write a lullaby with one of the most famous prayers dedicated to you. I grudgingly picked up my phone. I remembered the reason why I gave this person this particular ringtone. It’s a ringtone I take seriously.
The university president was enjoying the night out, and spoke directly into the speaker as I heard crowds of people chatting in the background, “Hello Sa! Would you do me a favor and get me three tacos for my son from this taco truck near the roundabout? This place has raving reviews! It’s really convenient that you live so close by!” Apparently, London has tacos with fine British ingredients and some of them even have a little Arabian flair.
Climbing out of bed, I grabbed my coat, and headed outside. The cold, crisp air hits my face and wakes me faster than a cup of coffee. I walked over to the taco truck,and an aroma hits the air as I get closer. I hear a sizzling grill and see smoke coming from the side. These tacos looked mouth watering as customers walked back munching at them with delight. I ordered five tacos: 3 for the university president’s son and 2 for myself. I held one of these in my hand and was about to bite into it anticipating to taste the explosion of flavors when…..
all of the sudden I woke up from this dream. I was devastated. WHY? Oh, that’s right, I have an exciting job interview today with an expanding marketing firm. Gotta get ready!
